I am so glad I took it out at the library before I spent money on it. I found the overuse of the analogy to boxing got old real fast. Very little practical information for the beginner Raw Foodist of the why's and wherefor's. I found it to be entirely too extreme and fanatical. If this had been the first book I ever read on the Raw lifestyle I would have been instantly turned off and gone back to just being vegetarian or stayed with the S.A.D.

I was really disappointed in this book as it was my first attempt to get in touch with raw eating. If you're a 12 yr old with a Karate Kid attitude then this book is for you. Not a good book if you're looking for help with transition to a raw food diet. Very little mention of what you should eat on a raw food program other than the obvious (fresh veggies and fruit), just a lot of caveman hype about what to avoid eating, drinking, smoking or swallowing. And the spelling and grammar were atrocious as well. Sorry Paul, better luck next time.

A great book! I have bought over 15 books in the past month on the benefits of eating 70%-100% raw foods, and while all of them have been terrific, this one is the easiest read. I am kind of on my own down here in Ormond Beach, and this book surely helped in my quest to discover the joys of the raw food lifestyle. The section on what goes on in the slaughter houses, poultry processing plants, and the fish packing plants and the unhealthy nature of all three industries as a whole, surely convinced me to avoid these poisens for the rest of my life. The brilliance of this book is not the recipes, folks...it's learning how to manage treatment symptoms with simple and easy dietary adjustments. The first section of the book is loaded with tips that work for all kinds of common side effects. As for the recipes, I agree they aren't all healthy, but when you are rapidly losing weight as a result of chemo, you can't stop that with more fruits and veggies. I am a cancer coach and recommend this book to almost all my clients, just not as a cookbook. If, however, you want a great COOKBOOK, The New American Plate is fabulous!

The best candida diet I have ever tried...
This book is amazing. I have suffered from candida overload for 20 years (I had tried diet and alternative medicine many times) and it had developed into chronic fatigue - I was struggling to get to work each day. After reading her book, I hired a nutritionist from Ms. White's business (we converse via e-mail - ... and took the supplements recommended and carefully followed her four point plan and diet. I am, at only one month, feeling great - out of bed and on the move! All my pains are gone, my sinuses and acne are clearing up, I have lost 20 pounds, even my fungal toenails are clearing up. I still have to stay on the diet a year at least, but it is very much worth it. None of the other methods have worked as well as this. This thorough and complete program really works and I can't recommend this book and her program enough.


Not the best cookbook
As someone who is new to the candida world the information provided was extremely useful. The recipes on the other hand left much to be desired. I am an avid cook and had to ammend the recipes I tried in order to make them somewhat palattable. Some like the baking, were unfixable and had to be discarded. Some of the combinations suggested are absolutely unthinkable. If you are looking for good background information on candida this is a great book. If you are looking for great recipes, try something else.

Been there done that
Brown's a good writer, knowledgeable about his subject, and a prolific author with a really fantastic publisher and editor. However, this book is not nearly as useful IMO as his earlier Modern Day Macrobiotics, which was a fairly practical primer--this title has too much filler, too many discursive side issues. At times it seems like a thank-you speech at the Oscars or Tonys, with nods to the macro fringe like Phiya Kushi, Bruce Paine, etc., and of course there's an endorsement of the book on the back cover from his own sister. His earlier book, Modern-Day macrobiotics, is more sensible and down to earth, and Brown thankfully pulls away from Kushi's claims that macrobiotics can heal every disease there is, including cancer--the macro community seems to be gradually disconnecting from those assertions, profitable though they may be. Brown moves into some foods that were discouraged by Kushi et al--tomatoes, yoghurt, etc. There are many other writers on the subject who offer more...

I enjoyed the Taste for Living Cookbook so much, I am thrilled that Beth Ginsberg continued to share her creativity in the kitchen in this new book. The WORLD cookbook contains all my favorite Italian, Chinese and Mexican recipes, re-invented with soy protein-- something I know will contribute to a long life for me and my family. And who would have thought we could still enjoy the all-American Chicago deep-dish pizza and Philly cheese steak without sacrificing health?! I have learned so much! Looking forward to Book 3.

Allergies Lead Me to Soy
At the recommendation of my grandmother, I purchased this book for help in preparing recipes prepared with soy. I was diagnosed with many allergies and I can no longer eat dairy products, corn, mushrooms, etc. (that's only the beginning, the list goes on!). I knew about tofu but I didn't know what to do with it. Using this book as a guide, I prepared a spinach lasagne following the ingredience for spinach ravoli (pg. 35). It was delicious, if I don't say so myself! I would definitely recommend this cookbook. I like using it as a guide to help with new ideas in food preparation. Bona Petite!

I loved this book. I've been a vegetarian for years, and have had to live with the scorn of my food-snob friends, many of whom wouldn't come to my house for dinner parties. So I cooked a feast of Ginsberg's recipes and impressed them all-finally. The Chinese food is especially tasty, although the biscotti was terrific. I brought it to work and everyone ate it up.
