Note from the author:

“As a mother, researcher and former school teacher I believe that the health and well-being of our children is vital. We don’t want to see them in pain and just as importantly they are our future! With so many children experiencing health issues ranging from obesity to diabetes to rapid tooth decay the connection between nutrition and health has never been more important to examine and consider. I wrote Healthy Kids, Health Diet to give parents a handbook for feeding their families well, offer clear and unbiased information to make informed decisions, and provide support along the journey.”

Sue Kuivanen

“Healthy Kids, Healthy Diets” is the culmination of interviewing numerous health experts, field work, research, and reading over 100 health books. If you read only a few books on health and nutrition for kids, be sure to include this one!

Most Underlined Buyer Review : Outstanding book about family & nutrition/couldn't put it down
Author Sue Kuivanen's analysis of how we feed our children and how we can do better was profoundly inspiring.

I just loved this book.

For a long time I will admit that I ate a less-than-stellar diet and I was hesitant to read a book about the topic, for I felt awful for not feeding my girls the healthiest foods they deserve all the time. I didn't want to feel even guiltier than I already had been feeling about feeding our family. In spite of that, I delved into this book and I found it really fascinating on many levels. I learned so much.

Kuivanen touched on such a wide array of relevant subjects. I especially appreciated that she did not present a "Do it my way or take the highway" approach. She gave realistic options in terms of making changes in how we shop and feed our kids, among a multitude of other fascinating topics discussed in the book. Moreover, I was moved by how the author shared her insecurities about how she had fed her daughter over...

What Various other Purchaser say?
LOVE this book!
Sue's book is a testament to what can be done if people are willing to work together. That being said, we ALL need to make a bigger effort to feed our children healthful food without additives, preservative and artificial colors and flavors.

Changes to School Lunch Programs an Uphill Battle
The author's perseverance in advocating for her local school district's lunch program is at the heart of this interesting, well-researched book. Kuivanen describes her grass-roots efforts at improving the school lunch program, achieving some initial success despite overwhelming obstacles. Sadly, the changes didn't last. As Kuivanen shows repeatedly, raising healthy kids in our junk food society requires creativity and constant vigilance. Although I disagree with the author's low-fat, vegetarian recommendations, Healthy Kids is an entertaining and informative read, full of practical suggestions for improving childhood nutrition at home and in the schools.
