I quite liked the book but it lacked focus.

For me the major breakthrough to a lower level of blood sugar came when I had to test myself for my blood sugar (which had been slightly high on a single morning reading). I was damned if I was going to let my docotr put me on pills so I was rigid about not snacking between samples (I had to do pre-breakfast, pre-lunch, pre-dinner tests). This taught as nothing else could have done that I was eating too many titbits.

The second breakthrough came when I stopped eating muesli for breakfast - my (new) doctor recommended a table spoon of oil every morning and it just didn't go with muesli. I didn't feel hungry mid morning after that and have lost weight ever since. I think giving up some classes of food is essential because I had been low GI and that wasn't enough.
