Cool little book
As a person who suffers from gout, I look for all methods to help combat it and stop future attacks. This books goes into a brief description of the benefits of smoothies, how the foods you use in them affect your immune system and, in particular, how certain foods and herbs/fruits/vegetables can be anti-inflammatories. Then there are over 10 delicious looking smoothing recipes in a wide variety of fruits! I'm definitely going to give this a try to help with my gout.
Great smoothies --- If you like bananas,
Over half, if not 2/3 of these recipes use bananas, and most of them are not useable for diabetics with arthritis due to the high carbohydrate count from all the fruit sugars.
I found that my arthritis is better if I eat at least 1 hard boiled egg per day. It also improved more when I ditched my whey protein powder for soy protein.
So, in these smoothies I would substitute a hard boiled egg for a banana, and add a tablespoon of tasteless soy protein and half tablespoon of chia seeds to help make up the missing banana bulk. I can still only drink one half of most the heavy fruit smoothies though, in a single meal due to the carbs. I'm sort of stuck with green smoothies only.
Good nutritional information though! I have been using ginger, turmeric. cinnamon and unalkalinized cocoa powder daily, when I forget those, my knees remind me.
